QLD Host Club & Local Area Info

Keppel Bay Sailing Club

KBSC has hosted the QLD Youth Camp and Championships annually since 2006 which sees over 140 youth sailors from all over Australia join in a week of high performance coaching and racing.

Keppel Bay Sailing Club in Yeppoon, Central Queensland is a not for profit organisation established in 1957 by volunteers with a passion for sailing and their community. Today it is the second largest employer in the region operating 4 venues offering sport, gaming and food and beverage. Today the ethos of the Club remains the same. ‘’To promote and encourage sport in our community’’ Boasting 14,000 members, the organisation employs over 140 staff from the local area. The Club annually contributes in excess of $53,720 to charitable/welfare organisations, $37,083 in community cash, makes $209,507 in community donations, donates $176,819 in cash for sport and recreation and donates $122,040 to sport and recreation. KBSC is committed to the promotion and development of the sport of sailing and as a result, is honoured to host state, national and international regattas on a regular basis.

The Keppel Bay Sailing club is currently undergoing a $20 million redevelopment. Our entire clubhouse has been demolished to make way for a brand new, state of the art sailing clubhouse, convention centre, restaurants and bars. We anticipate that we will be back sailing from this building mid-2024. Our new building will offer a sailor’s bar downstairs, along with 2 state of the art training rooms, offices, protest room, workshop, and ample boat storage. Keppel Bay Sailing Club and its members are very excited about this development and are keen to show off this amazing building in 2024.

This year Youth Sail Qld will be sailing from Yeppoon Sailing Village (Farnborough Beach Access 9). Farnborough beach is approximately 2km from the heart of Yeppoon. For those up early, there is a coffee shop across the road, open from 7.00am. Right next door is one of Yeppoon’s best Fish and Chip shops (Beachside 66). There is toilets and outdoor showers available.

KBSC will have a regatta office onsite with the appropriate facilities available (i.e., printers, internet, computers). There will be 4 huge gazebos positioned on the grass area for a quiet shaded spot for competitors and families to relax. The beach will feature a second regatta office to oversee general daily operations. This year’s rigging lawn will be located on the beach, all classes will be designated to rigging areas, similar to previous years where the areas are clearly distinguished. There is ample parking along both sides of Farnborough Rd.
